Chapter 28: Pip hopes to see Estella and apologize to Joe for his behaviour. Pip travels home on a coach and he notices a pair of convicts one of whom is the mysterious man who gave Pip the money, Pip overhears a conversation where the convict Pip had helped told the man to give Pip the money. Pip remembers this moment and his horrified so he proceeds to get off the coach. Pip gets off near the town and once he reaches the hotel he finds a newspaper which shows Pumblechook taking all the credit for Pip becoming famous.

Chapter 29: Pip the next day travels to Satis house. Pip encounters Orlick at the gate and the have a conversation on how Orlick ended at Miss Havisham’s and when he left the forge. Pip enters and sees a woman who he doesn’t recognise. Pip then realises its Estella, Pip says Estella has changed a lot and was much more beautiful, so much more womanly, he then says she has had a lot of changes and he has made none. Miss Havisham continues to tell Pip to carry on loving Estella, As Pip and Estella are walking in the garden Pip realises Estella is treating him differently

Chapter 30: Pip feels uncomfortable with Orlick working for Miss Havisham and Jaggers then gets rid of Orlick due to Pip telling Jaggers what he knows about Orlick. Pip runs into Trabbs boy who proceeds to mock Pip. Pip heads back to London where Herbert tries to cheer up Pip and Pip tells Herbert that he adores Estella and Herbert tells Pip that he has a fiancé and he is too poor to marry her

Chapter 31: Mr Wopsle takes Pip and Herbert to a play about Hamlet and the audience reply to everything the actors say. Pip takes Herbert and Mr Wopsle out for drinks its 2am and Pip goes to bed miserable and thinking about Estella and some twisted dreams. Where he gave his hand in marriage to Herbert’s Clara, playing Hamlet and Miss havisham ghost and being in front of 20,000 people and forgetting his lines

Chapter 32: Pip receives a letter from Estella saying she coming to London and he has to pick her up. Pip gets there early and encounters Wemmick. Wemmick takes Pip on a tour of Newgate Prison. Pip feels very uncomfortable but he notices Wemmick seems at home here.

Chapter 33: Pip then meets up with Estella and they then take a carriage to Estella’s new house but they take a break to eat. Estella tells Pip how the Pocket family have been writing mean and horrible letters about him however Miss Havisham likes that they are jealous of Pip. Estella then talks about how it wasn’t fun growing up, they get back in the carriage and once they make it to Estella’s house. Estella tells Pip that he should visit her often, Pip leaves Estella and returns to the Pocket household

Chapter 34: Pip cant stop thinking about Estella Pip also regrets the way he has been treating Joe recently. Pip is living the life buying all sorts of stuff he doesn’t need. Pip and Herbert sit down and calculate how much they have spent and their debt. A letter arrives telling Pip that Mrs Joe has died and the funeral is on Monday

Chapter 35: Pip arrives home for his sister funeral and cant stop thinking about her in her rocking chair by the fire. Pumblechook is drunk and still taking credit for Pip rise to fame, Pip and Joe at the funeral talk about the old times. Pip and biddy now talk about the old times and Pip is enraged that Orlick has been spending time around Biddy and he should get him but Biddy tells him not too, Pip then promises to Biddy that he will visit more often. Biddy doesn’t believe Pip and Pip is annoyed by this. Pip sleeps in his old room for the night. Next morning Pip sees Joe working and Biddy apologies to Pip if he has upset him, Pip then leaves into the mist.

Chapter 36: Pip is turning 21 and Jaggers wants to talk to Pip. Jaggers tells Pip he will be given £500 this year and he shocked. However Pip continues to ask Jaggers who his secret benefactor is but Jaggers ignores him and doesn’t tell him. Wemmick then tells Pip to invest in something with the money

Chapter 37: Pip then meets up with Wemmick and Pip then asks how he can invest the money for Herbert. Pip doesn’t want Herbert to know that he is investing in something for him. They find a merchant in need partner Pip then decides to buy the partnership for Herbert.

Chapter 38: Pip tells us that this chapter is dedicated to Estella. Pip spends his days hanging out with Estella and is there just to make other people jealous. Pip and Estella then proceed to visit Miss Havisham. Miss Havisham is happy to see Pip and Estella, As they gather around the fire Pip observes that Estella is designed to destroy men. Estella decides to unhook her arm from Miss Havisham which leads to a massive argument. Miss Havisham wants Estella to love her and calls her cold hearted. Estella says this is the way you raised me not to love anyone and says she can take pride in what she has created. Pip leaves and comebacks and find Estella kneeling by Miss Havisham knitting.
